OSHA - 30 Hour Construction

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

 

This course is comprised of 22 sections and covers topics pertaining to regulations covered by Standard 29 CFR 1926. This 30-hour Construction Outreach Training Program is intended to provide a variety of training to workers with some safety responsibility. Workers must receive additional training on hazards specific to their job, from their employer. Training will emphasize hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, and how they relate to the OSHA Construction standards. Instructional time will be a minimum of 30 hours. OSHA Construction subpart references are provided for informational purposes; again, this training is intended to emphasize hazard awareness.


LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

 

·      List the OSHA inspection priorities and describe the inspection process

  • Describe the rights and responsibilities of employers and employees under the OSHA Act
  • Determine under which conditions OSHA safety regulations should be implemented
  • Locate OSHA Standards references applicable to specific hazardous conditions and practices.
  • Recognize the aspects of 1926 Subpart C.
  • Implement preventative measures for accidents in their workplace.
  • Describe types of personal protective equipment (PPE), and the requirements for use in OSHA standards.
  • Understand the requirements for fire protection in the workplace.
  • Identify types of rigging equipment used to protect employees.
  • Identify the critical health and safety hazards of welding and cutting in the construction industry.
  • Identify common electrical hazards and related OSHA standards.
  • Understand the importance of scaffolding for workers in elevated workplaces.
  • Implement measures for protecting workers and equipment from dangerous falls.
  • Recognize the hazards associated with working in or around excavation sites.
  • Understand the safety requirements necessary to protect workers around concrete and masonry jobs.
  • Identify the precautions and hazards to protect workers using explosives or blasting agents.
  • Protect workers who perform jobs on or around stairways or ladders at worksites.
  • List and describe the hazards and prevalence of confined spaces.
  • The basic requirements for proper aisle and passageway maintenance
  • Guidelines for identification and protection of floor opening
  • To understand the importance of effective egress fire protection program
  • To recognize hazards associated with overhead power lines, power tools and cords, temporary wiring, grounding
  • To understand the risks associated with trucks, cranes, constructing masonry walls
  • To recognize the Focus Four Hazards; Fall Protection, Electrical, Struck By and Caught In/Between

·         Struck By – 1 Hour

·         Caught in/between – 1 Hour

·         Personal Protective and Lifesaving Equipment – 2 Hours

This course has been designed for 30 hours of instruction and interaction time.  As of 10-1-2010 OSHA mandated no more than 7 1/2 hours of instruction in one day, consequently this course is now a four day course.

Attendees must score an 80% on the final test to pass this course. Upon passing this course, you will receive a certificate of completion and wallet card.
